In their introduction to the book ‘Sexual Cultures’ Weeks and Holland describe a “dawning recognition that an understanding of sexualities in their broadest sense must now be central to the understanding of wider social developments” and that it has become “impossible to think of such issues as power, the family, the organization of work, identity and politics without an understanding of sexuality”.
They also suggest that if the classifications of sexuality (not to be confused with sexual orientation), are indeed social constructs then sexuality could be re-invented to fit in with the social, cultural, and political needs of the times.
Whether you want to begin to re-invent this for yourself, so that it finally feels right for you, or you need help in accepting the invention that up until now you've been struggling with, my experince in working with clients from a full range of sexual orientations and proclivities will help to inform the process.
Gone are the days where society and indeed its collective sexuality can be seen in “terms of a hegemonic form from which everything else is a bizarre deviation”. From ‘Sexual Cultures’ by Weeks and Holland.
Unfortunately most of my clients (both individuals and couples) don't realize this and still bear the burden of repression caused by social stigmatization and life-long conditioning.
It has become apparent to me in my work as a Psychotherapist, that exploring this ‘unique’ self-styled sexual identity within the safety of one's own mind is one thing, but negotiating the fulfillment of these fantasies with one's partner is akin (as one of my clients so succinctly put it) to walking through a minefield!
I have helped many singles and couples discover and negotiate their sexual identities and proclivities in a safe, ethical and caring environment.
Please note all work is done fully clothed and the only sex organ I come into contact with is the one between your ears.
